At Franklin High School Softball, we are dedicated to fostering a passion for the sport among young athletes in Tennessee. Our team provides an environment that encourages skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We strive to enhance our visibility and create opportunities for sponsorship to support our players. Our commitment extends beyond the field, as we aim to inspire our community and build a legacy of excellence.
Coach Karen Whidby
As a native of Franklin, TN, Karen graduated from Franklin High School in 2002. While at FHS, she was a multi-sport athlete, playing on the basketball and softball teams. Karen is married and shares three children with Franklin’s baseball coach, Wally Whidby. Karen began her college softball career at Northwest Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and finished her final two years at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. While at Martin, she was awarded the 2005 District Player of the year, Regional Player of the year, and Second Team All-American. Karen was inducted into the Franklin High School Hall of Fame in 2014.
She began her coaching career in 2007 as the assistant softball coach at Martin Methodist College. She was the assistant softball coach at Summit High School before being named the head coach at Franklin in 2019. Karen is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education, School Counseling department at Lipscomb University. She earned her bachelor of arts degree at Martin Methodist College, Master of Psychology from the University of Phoenix, Education Specialist Degree and Doctor of Education from Lipscomb University.
Coach Savannah Nocera
Savannah Nocera was born in Naples, Florida where she played and attended Palmetto Ridge High School. Among her accolades as a four-year starter on Varsity was being recognized as a finalist for Naples Daily News Spring (Softball) Player of the Year her senior year. In addition to this, she was All-County all four years of her southwest high school career. She went on to attend and play as a four-year starter at Milligan University in Johnson City, TN. While earning her Bachelors in English (minoring in Humanities and History), she was recognized on the All Conference (Second Team) as a freshman. Her sophomore year, she was recognized in the District Championship as All-Tournament team selection. Her senior year, she helped her team achieve the title of Conference Champs in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and helped pave the way to Milligan’s first-ever World-Series Appearance in 2021.
Off the field, Savannah is also an author of poetry and prose. She published her first novel just after graduating from Milligan in 2021. She made her way to the middle Tennessee area to pursue a M.Ed. in Secondary Education at Vanderbilt University and graduated in the spring of 2023. Following this accomplishment, she got the opportunity to teach English and coach at Franklin High School.
When approaching her experience in coaching, she ran the softball program at Camp Walt Whitman in Piermont, New Hampshire for two years. she worked with two-hundred plus campers from ages five to fourteen--honing and developing their love for the game. Franklin High School is her first official coaching position, working alongside Karen Whidby since the 2023-2024 softball season.
